Anurag Kashyap vs Ranvir Shorey Twitter War on ‘Independent Film Crusaders’ turned ‘mainstream Bollywood-Flunkies’

Kangana Ranaut’s recent statements slamming Bollywood and nepotism seem to have divided the people in the film industry.

Twitter has turned into a battleground these days.

Ranvir Shorey vs Anurag Kashyap Twitter War

Recently, actor Ranvir Shorey and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap too locked horns on Twitter; after Ranvir made a comment on Bollywood Hypocrisy about ‘independent-film-crusaders turning into mainstream-bollywood-flunkies’.

Taking offence to the tweet, Anurag asked – ‘Exactly what you mean and whose flunky is who?

However, Ranvir Shorey did not feel the need to take any names since he felt his statements did not lack clarity.

Inviting Ranvir to speak clearly, Anurag questioned him, “Whose flunky do you think I am?” Emphasizing that he operated alone, Anurag further added that correction was required in this industry like every other industry.

Ranvir didn’t back down either, pointing out that he hadn’t mentioned Anurag. He asked the filmmaker to confess on his own if he was so ‘gutted’ by Ranvir’s statements.

Ranvir reiterated with “I work even more alone than you!”

Anurag engaged further in the heated exchange by stating that no one worked with outsiders more than him. He elaborated by saying that he wouldn’t allow anyone to distract or change the narrative of how the industry is being used.

To this Ranvir Shorey replied that Kashyap was making the mistake of carrying the mantle of ‘independent film crusader’ all by himself. He pointed out to Anurag that independent cinema has been and always will be more than Kashyap.

Anurag continued on with the Twitter war – “So you weren’t talking about me? That’s incredible. Totally my fault that I misread you … “. Kashyap also asked Ranvir for clarification on who he thought Anurag was belittling.

Ranvir responded that Anurag was belittling people by claiming that they were “distracting or changing the narrative”. Ranvir posed the question – “Who are you to control the narrative?” to Anurag, emphasizing that everyone had the right to talk about their pain.

He also said that Anurag’s replies to him were unnecessary.

To that, Anurag said that “You see Kangana’s outburst as her pain. Fine. I will agree to disagree”.

Ranvir concluded by saying that he wasn’t mentioning names but simply defending everyone’s right to speak their own truth. “Who is to say who is in real pain and who’s an attention seeker?”
