Flashback Friday: When SRK Pranked His Wife’s Family Real Good

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are one of the strongest B-Town couples, proving that true love knows no religious barriers.

However, back in 1991, when inter-faith marriages were not a norm, tongues had certainly wagged. But our charming SRK handled it with class!

“One should respect religions, but it should not come in the way of love” – says SRK

Here’s a throwback to when the Pathan actor pulled off a prank on wifey Gauri’s family but also emphasised an important lesson –  that while religions should be respected, they should not come in the way of love.

In conversation with actress Farida Jalal, the Badshah of Bollywood had recalled the funny incident that went down at his wedding, and how people were wary of a Hindu-Muslim marriage.

“I remember, when their whole family, old fashioned people, I respect them all and respect their beliefs but at that time, in that old-fashioned reception, all of them were sitting there when I came in at 1:15, whispering “Hmmm.. He’s a Muslim boy. Hmm.. Will he change the girl’s name? Will she (Gauri) become a Muslim?”

SRK Pranked Gauri’s Family By Asking Her To Wear A Burkha In Front Of Them

He added, “Then, I said ‘OK Gauri, put on your ‘burkha’ and let’s read the namaaz now’. The whole family stared at us wondering if I had changed her religion already. So I told them, ‘From now on she will wear a burkha all the time, she won’t ever leave the house and her name will be changed to Ayesha and she will be like this’.”

“I had a lot of fun, but the lesson in all of this was that one should respect religions, but it should not come in the way of love. But it was a great wedding and it’s still going on strong,” SRK concluded.

Well said, King of Romance. Love, tolerance and respect is the key! Here’s wishing that the SRK-Gauri Jodi continues to be the Power Couple of Bollywood.
