Platforms like Netflix, Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video and Sony LIV came to the rescue – offering a versatile range of content to binge.
Here’s our list of OTT debuts that stood out in 2020; from known talents to fresh faces –
1) Pratik Gandhi
The theatre and film actor, Pratik Gandhi had already carved a niche for himself in the Gujarati entertainment circuit. In 2020, he ventured into the OTT space with SonyLIV’s crime drama series ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’.
His portrayal of the stockbroker and ‘Big Bull’ Harshad Mehta was simply phenomenal and earned him rave reviews! Risk hai toh ishq hai!
2) Sushmita Sen
Back on screen after a decade-long hiatus, Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen made a powerful digital debut with the Hotstar Special webseries, ‘Aarya’. This crime-thriller featured the actress in the titular role of Aarya Sareen; transitioning flawlessly from a Homemaker to a Hardened Criminal who takes over her husband’s narcotics business!
Sen’s performance was lauded by critics and audience alike, and the series is coming through with a sequel soon.
3) Karan Tacker
Television heartthrob Karan Tacker made his entry into the digital world with Neeraj Pandey’s Indian espionage thriller series ‘Special Ops’, on Hotstar.
His performance as the RAW agent Farooq Ali in this high-octane series earned him widespread praise!
4) Masaba Gupta
Renowned fashion designer Masaba Gupta made her acting debut with Netflix’s semi-fictional web series ‘Masaba Masaba’.
Real life mom-daughter duo Neena and Masaba Gupta essayed versions of themselves in this playfully scripted series.
5) Ishwak Singh
Veere Di Wedding actor Ishwak Singh made his OTT debut as the earnest rookie cop –Imran Ansari in Amazon Prime’s crime thriller web-series ‘Paatal Lok’.
After his promising digital debut, Ishwak will next be seen in another Amazon Prime offering – the anthology ‘Unpaused’. Co-starring with Richa Chadha and Sumeet Vyas, he will be playing an interesting role, as a confidante to a married woman.
