Remakes have become one of the coolest trends in Bollywood.

From ‘Kabir Singh’ to ‘Hera Pheri’– let’s have a look at 10 Bollywood flicks ‘inspired’ by south-Indian movies.

10 Bollywood Remakes Of South-Indian Movies:

1. Kabir Singh (2019)- Arjun Reddy (2017)

Shahid Kapoor’s blockbuster hit ‘Kabir Singh’ is the Hindi remake of the Telugu movie ‘Arjun Reddy’. While Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed both the movies, Vijay Devarakonda featured as the male lead in the original.

2. Laxmii (2020) – Kanchana (2011)

The Hindi remake ‘Laxmii’ failed to impress the audiences, but, the Tamil original ‘Kanchana’ was a huge success. The Akshay Kumar-Kiara Advani starrer is directed by Raghava Lawrence, who not only directed the original but also acted in it.

3. Durgamati (2020)- Bhaagamathie (2018)

Directed by G.Ashok, Bhuma Pednekar’s ‘Durgamati’ is the Hindi remake of his own Telugu-Tamil bilingual film ‘Bhaagamathie’. The original starred Anushka Shetty as the lead.

4. Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)- Manichitrathazhu (1993)

2007’s superhit movie ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya’, directed by Priyadarshan’, is the remake of the Malayalam movie ‘Manichitrathazhu’. The Malayalam film was also remade in Tamil as ‘Chandramukhi’ and in Bengali as ‘Rajmahal’.

5. Drishyam (2015)- Drishyam (2013)

Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Drishyam’ is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam movie of the same name. Both the movies were well-received by the audiences. 

6. Kick (2014)- Kick (2009)

Ravi Teja & Ileana D’Cruz starrer Telugu flick ‘Kick’ was later remade in Hindi of the same name, which starred Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Randeep Hooda in pivotal roles.

7. Ok Jaanu (2017)- O Kadhal Kanmani (2015)

While Aditya Roy Kapur & Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Ok Jaanu’ didn’t work at the box-office, the Tamil original ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’ swept everyone off their feet. The original flick starrer popular Malayalam stars Dulquer Salman & Nithya Menen.

8. Ghajini (2008)- Ghajini (2005)

The Tamil original of Aamir Khan’s ‘Ghajini’ was also directed by A R Murugadoss and starred Suriya, Asin, and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Both the movies did well at the box-office.

9. Hera Pheri (2000)- Ramji Rao Speaking (1989)

The cult classic comedy film ‘Hera Pheri’ is a copy of the Malayalam film ‘Ramji Rao Speaking’, which in turn was loosely based on the 1971 television film ‘See The Man Run’. 

10. Wanted (2009)- Pokiri (2006)

Directed by Prabhudeva, Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, and Prakash Raj starrer ‘Wanted’ is the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit ‘Pokiri’. The original movie was directed by Puri Jagannath and starred Mahesh Babu, Ileana D’Cruz and Prakash Raj in key roles.
