Shahid Kapoor Smoked 20 Cigarettes A DAY For ‘Kabir Singh’; See 5 FUN FACTS!

1) Kiara Advani Was Not 1st Choice

Kiara Advani was eventually cast as the female lead ‘Preeti’ but it was Tara Sutaria who was approached first for the role.

As per New Indian Express report, Tara had opted out of the project owing to date issues.

2) Shahid Kapoor’s Drastic Transformation

Even though the movie’s subject matter may be questionable, Shahid Kapoor gave a stellar performance! As per HT report, he also underwent some drastic physical changes – first, he had to put on 8 kilos while they were shooting the ‘angry, destructive, out of shape’ Kabir Singh scenes.

“I gained 8kg and then lost 14kg” – says Shahid

They shot the young college boy scenes later on; for which Shahid then had to lose around 14 kilos!

3) Arjun Kapoor Was 1st Choice 

As per India Today, it was revealed that the producers, Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde, had wanted to cast Arjun Kapoor in Kabir Singh.

However, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had already committed to Shahid Kapoor for the role. 

4) 20 Cigarettes A Day

Shahid Kapoor played an alcoholic surgeon in the movie, and the role required him to channel his angst through heavy drinking and smoking.

As reported by HT, Shahid admitted to having smoked 20 cigarettes A DAY for Kabir Singh! He said he doesn’t endorse smoking and it wasn’t easy for him to do so.

5) 2-Hour Shower

Playing Kabir Singh truly was challenging for Shahid. 

“It would take me close to two hours to shower and get rid of the smells before I could return home to my children,” Shahid told the media. 

Though the movie was criticized quite heavily, it did do well at the box office – boasting a collection of 379.02 crores!
