THROWBACK: Did You Know SRK REJECTED ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ Movie FOUR TIMES? Here’s WHY-

Shah Rukh Khan– The king of romance completed 29 years in Bollywood today.

On Friday, SRK took to Twitter and thanked his fans for showering so much love over the years.

After making his Bollywood debut with ‘Deewana’ in 1992, SRK appeared as a bad guy in films like- ‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Anjaam’ and made us fall in love with his villainous avatar. However, the superstar then did ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (1995) and became the ‘King of romance’ just like that.

In the iconic film, SRK’s character name is ‘Raj’. And when we say Raj it resembles the quintessential Bollywood hero who is a lover boy and beats the crap out of villains to save his girl. Well, thanks to SRK for this.

While ‘DDLJ’ still runs at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir Theatre, even after 25 years of its release, not many people know that Shah Rukh was initially sceptical about the offer and had turned down the movie not once or twice but four times.

Curious to know why? Well, it’s just because he thought he was too old to be a romantic hero in a movie.

SRK as ‘Raj’ in DDLJ

In the making of ‘DDLJ’, the 55-year-old revealed, “I never wanted to do a romantic role. Because by the time I joined films I was 26. Normally romantic films meant that you started off from college and then you work your way up into romance and then run away with a girl, or committed suicide with a girl. I thought I was too old to be a romantic hero.”

He went on to say that he had rejected the role as he was already ruling Bollywood with his negative portrayals in films. He felt that these negative roles brought him success and growth in Bollywood, which is why he was more interested in doing anti-hero characters.

Whoa, we bet you didn’t know this one. Thank God SRK took up Raj Malhotra’s role because nobody could have said ‘Palat, palat, palat…’ better than him.
