5 Bollywood Movies Set In Kashmir:
1. The Kashmir Files
This Vivek Agnihotri directorial has been receiving rave reviews since its release. Set in 1990, The Kashmir Files tells the story of of the exodus (or rather the genocide) of Kashmiri Pandits/Hindus during the 1990 Kashmir Insurgency.
The movie was released in theatres on March 11 and collected a total amount of Rs 60.20 crores till Tuesday (March 15).

2. Haider
Starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Tabu in the lead, Haider was an Hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic novel – Hamlet. Directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, the movie was set against the backdrop of the insurgency-hit Kashmir conflicts in 1995 and civilian disappearances.
Shahid played the titular role, Haider, a student and a poet who returned to Kashmir to find out the truth about his father’s disappearance.

3. Shikara
Directed and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Shikara was also based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus. However, Vidhu had set the movie against the backdrop of a love story of a young couple who is forced out of their homes along with thousands of Kashmiri pandits due to communal tensions in their state.
4. Roja
The Mani Ratnam directorial, Roja, tells the story of a woman from Tamil Nadu, who makes desperate efforts to find her husband after he gets kidnapped by militants during a secret undercover mission in Jammu and Kashmir.
The movie had starred Arvind Swamy and Madhoo in the lead.
5. Shaurya
Directed by Samar Khan, Shaurya starred Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose, Javed Jaffrey, Deepak Dobriyal and Minissha Lamba. Set in the context of the Insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir, the film revolves around the court-martial of an Indian Army officer for shooting dead his superior officer. During the court-martial, the circumstances leading up to the fratricidal murder are gradually revealed.
