Bhumi Pednekar Bhakshak movie review

After getting a call from one of her trusted sources, Vaishali, along with her cameraman Bhaskar Sinha (played by Sanjay Mishra) begins a dogged investigation into harrowing cases of abuse being covered up at a shelter for young girls in Munawwarpur.

The abusive shelter home is owned by a powerful man named Bansi Sahu (played by Aditya Srivastava) who has strong political connections.

As she digs deeper into the case, she unravels some shocking truths that happen behind the closed doors of that shelter home. Vaishali hits a roadblock when her life and family members gets threatened.

Being a married working woman, Bhumi’s character faces challenges not only in her professional life but also in her personal life. She also struggles to find willing witnesses and accomplices.

Can Vaishali and Bhaskar – two ordinary small-town media people – be able to uncover the painful reality and bring justice to the minor girls? Watch Bhakshak (which translates to “predator”) on Netflix to know how things unfold.

What Do We Think?

This Bhumi Pednekar-starrer deals with one of the most important topics that should be spoken about in today’s reality. Director Pulkit has sincerely dealt with the subject with utmost sensitivity.

According to reports, Bhumi’s film is loosely based on the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case, where sexual abuse of 34 out of 42 of the girls living at the shelter was confirmed.

The first scene of Bhakshak itself indicates that it’s not going to be an easy watch. The narrative is engaging, brutal, disturbing yet crucial. However, the film does lose its pace in between .

Bhumi Pednekar-Sanjay Mishra in Bhakshak movie

After films like Bheed, Afwaah, Thank You For Coming, Bhumi Pednekar has delivered yet another strong and praise-worthy performance. Needless to say, she is on her A-game right now. Pednekar as Vaishali is strong, simple, confident and resilient. Her performance will keep you hooked to the screens as she quests for answers and justice.

On the other hand, Sanjay Mishra was effortless and organic. CID fame Aditya Srivastava as the horror man Bansi Sahu does his part well. Sai Tamhankar as senior policewoman plays a crucial part in the narrative but lacks depth.

HIT Or MISS?

Bhakshak is NOT a flawless film but it definitely deserves to be watched by everyone. The intention of this investigative crime-thriller makes a must-watch with a compelling narrative and strong performances.
