Ram Gopal Varma Sentenced To 3 Months Jail In Cheque Bounce Case

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been convicted and sentenced to three months of imprisonment by a Mumbai court in a cheque bounce case

The case, initiated in 2018 by a company named Shree

The case involved a cheque issued by Varma’s firm that was dishonoured due to insufficient funds

In June 2022, Varma was granted bail after providing a personal recognizance bond and cash security of ₹5,000

Varma failed to comply with the court’s directives and repeatedly missed appearances, causing delays in the proceedings

after seven years, Varma was found guilty of violating Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act

His absence from the court on the day of the verdict prompted the Magistrate to issue a standing non-bailable warrant (NBW) for his arrest

Varma has been ordered to pay ₹3.72 lakh as compensation to the complainant within three months

Failure to pay this amount will result in an additional three months of simple imprisonment
