1. Parveen Babi

Parveen Babi’s tragic life story is known to all. The bold, beautiful, and charming actress ruled the silver screens during the 70s. Her life turned upside down during her last days as she got penniless and even got herself detached from the film industry. The actress was found dead in her apartment in 2005 and nobody reportedly came forward to claim the body for 2 days. It was Mahesh Bhatt who took the responsibility to perform the last rituals.

2. Meena Kumari

Bollywood’s one of the finest actresses of her time Meena Kumari was also known as ‘The Tragedy Queen’ because of her on-screen characters. Little did she know her personal life would also become a tragic one. The actress had reportedly suffered from depression, alcoholism, financial debts, and insomnia. When she died, she didn’t even have the money to pay for her hospital bills.

3. Vimi

Despite getting unmatched fame with B.R. Chopra’s ‘Humraaz’, Vimi gave several flops after that. Her husband also divorced her and she stopped getting any film offers. Finally, she had to sell her business, ‘Vimi Textiles’, and fall into depression and alcoholism. Her last days were spent in extreme poverty and was so alone that her body was taken to the crematorium on a tea vendor’s cart.

4. Achala Sachdev

Acted in more than 120 movies, Achala Sachdev, who featured in the evergreen song ‘Aye Meri Zohrajabeen’, was reportedly abandoned by her son and daughter. After years of living alone and penniless, she had a traumatic death. There was nobody by her side from her family during her last breath.

5. AK Hangal

The legendary actor AK Hangal had acted in several iconic movies like ‘Sholay’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Guddi’ and also had received the Padma Bhushan award. Despite having a successful filmy career, Hangal was pretty much penniless during his old age and didn’t have enough money for his treatment. At the age of 95, the veteran actor passed away.

6. Bhagwan Dada

Bhagwan Abji Pandav, popularly known as Bhagwan Dada was a successful actor, director, and writer in Hindi cinema. But after a series of flops, he went bankrupt and had to sell his 25-bedroom lavish house in Juhu and 7 swanky cars. Despite earning everything he ended up living in a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai. In 2002, poverty-stricken Bhagwan Dada died at the age of 84.

7. Bharat Bhushan

Another legendary actor, who acted in cult movies like ‘Baiju Bawra’, ‘Chitralekha’, Bharat Bhushan died pennilessly. He was one of the highest-paid actors at his time and starred opposite Madhubala and Nutan. His gambling addiction took away his all wealth him and he had to move in a chawl.
