The story revolves around Chanda (Swara Bhasker) who works as a house help and wants her daughter Apu (Ria Shukla) to get a good education. But Apeksha hates studying since she thinks it is a futile effort owing to their financial status. To solve this problem, her mother, Chanda, comes up with a unique strategy to motivate her daughter.

3. English Vinglish

Directed by Gauri Shinde, the movie revolves around a housewife and caterer named Shashi (Sridevi), who is usually mocked by her well-educated husband (Adil Hussain) and daughter (Navika Kotia) for not knowing English. Her attempt to learn the language helps her rediscover herself and reassert her value as a mother and a wife.

4. Secret Superstar

This Advait Chandan directorial clearly portrays how a mother fights all the odds and encourages her daughter to stand up for her dreams.

The movie tells the story of a mother Najma (Meher Vij), who against her husband’s will, helps her 15-year-old daughter, Insia (Zaira Wasim), in her dreams of becoming a singer. The film deals with social issues including feminism, gender equality, and domestic violence.

5. Margarita With A Straw

This movie beautifully portrays how a mother will always be there for you when anybody else won’t.

In this movie, Shubhangini (played by Revathy) is always there for her daughter’s (Kalki Koechlin) illness, her homosexuality, or her failures.
