Film Based On SSR’s Life To Be Released Or Not; Here Is The Court’s VERDICT!

Post the unfortunate death of Sushant Singh Rajput, a few filmmakers have tried making a film on his life.

However, SSR’s father Krishna Kishore Singh had moved the Delhi High Court seeking to restrain movies based on his son’s life.

As per a report ‘Nyay: The Justice’, a film apparently based on the late actor’s life, is set to release in June. Krishna Kishore Singh had already filed a petition to stay the release of the film and had also sought for Rs 2 Crores as damage compensation.

In his petition, Sushant’s father has called out a few of the movies – ‘Nyay: The Justice’, ‘Suicide or Murder: A star was lost’, ‘Shashank’. K.K Singh claimed that these filmmakers were trying to encash this opportunity for ulterior motives. He also said that no one had obtained his permission or consent.

The petition was dismissed by the High Court bench led by Justice Sanjeev Narula. In addition, the court has refused to stay the release of the films. The movie producers were also asked to maintain accounts.

The Delhi High Court then said, The artistic freedom to create fictional works cannot be controlled, limited, or confined within set boundaries. An artist’s inspiration can come from any source, and the court cannot filter real-life events. This Court finds merit in the submission of the Defendants that details of the demise of SSR received widespread and protracted news coverage in all media, which are available in the public domain, and form a part of the public record.”
