Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian crisis as the Taliban took over the country after the withdrawal of USA troops.

Though Afghanistan is in an ugly situation right now, did you know the country has been a beautiful backdrop for several Bollywood movies?

1. Torbaaz (2020)

Sanjay Dutt’s action thriller movie ‘Torbaaz’ revolved around child suicide bombers in Afghanistan who are coaxed into believing that killing enemies is a sign of virtue. A large portion of the film was shot in Afghanistan.

2. Kabul Express (2006)

Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘Kabul Express’ was the first film that was shot in Afghanistan after the Taliban rule ended in 2001. Starring John Abraham and Arshad Warsi in the lead, the adventure-drama essays the story of two Indian journalists who are sent into Afghanistan to create a report on what life is like in the war-torn country following the US-led invasion of the country.

3. Khuda Gawah (1992)

Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, and Nagarjuna, the epic drama ‘Khuda Gawah’ was extensively shot in Afghanistan in very difficult times of the country back then. Reportedly, ‘Khuda Gawah’ is one of the most-watched Indian films in the history of Afghanistan.

4. Dharmatma (1975)

Released in 1975, Hema Malini, Rekha, Feroz Khan, and Premnath starrer ‘Dharmatma’ was the first Bollywood film to have shot in Afghanistan. According to reports, the drama-thriller is said to be loosely based on ‘The Godfather’.

5. Janasheen (2003)

Fardeen Khan & Celina Jaitly starrer romantic action-thriller film ‘Janasheen’ was partly shot in the eye-catching beautiful locations in Afghanistan post-Taliban reign.
