Kalki 2: Alia Bhatt In Talks To Replace Deepika Padukone?
Kalki 2 is already creating more drama off-screen than on, and it’s all thanks to some major casting shake-ups. Deepika Padukone, who played SUM-80 aka Sumati (the pregnant lab subject and prophesied mother of Kalki in the first film), is officially not coming back for the sequel. Shocking, right?
Kalki 2: Deepika Padukone Dropped From The Sequel
While fans were expecting her to return to this futuristic world, the production house Vyjayanthi Movies recently confirmed the exit. In their official statement, they wrote that after careful consideration they had decided to part ways with Deepika due to ‘creative and commitment-related differences’. Translation? She wanted to cut down on long work hours as a new mom, and the team couldn’t make it work. Ouch. Still, the makers wished her well, calling Kalki a film that “deserves that commitment and much more.”

But here’s where it gets juicy. Rumor has it Alia Bhatt is swooping in to fill Deepika’s shoes. According to industry chatter, director Nag Ashwin is in talks with Alia, and while they were initially discussing another project, he now wants her in Kalki 2 instead. If this deal clicks, Alia would take over as Sumati (SUM-80). Can you imagine the star power? Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and now Alia Bhatt? That’s a lineup you don’t mess with!
Alia Bhatt Upcoming Movies:
And honestly, Alia’s on a dream run. She’s got YRF’s spy thriller Alpha alongside Sharvari, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal already on her plate. Adding a mega sci-fi sequel like Kalki 2 would be the ultimate cherry on top.
So, will Alia officially replace Deepika? Nothing’s confirmed yet, but if the rumors are true, Kalki 2 just became an even bigger spectacle to watch out for.
