Thamma Day 1 Box Office Collection; Biggest Opener For Ayushmann Khurrana
Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest horror-comedy Thamma has sunk its teeth deep into the box office! Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the film has delivered a monster opening, proving that horror-comedy is Ayushmann’s sweet spot.
Thamma Day 1 Box Office Collection; Biggest Opener For Ayushmann Khurrana – 25.11 Crore
On Day 1, Thamma collected a whopping ₹25.11 crore (India NBOC), making it Ayushmann’s biggest opener ever, surpassing the first-day numbers of Dream Girl 2 (₹10.69 crore). It’s also the third-highest opener for Maddock Films, right behind Stree 2 and Chhaava. Clearly, this Diwali release has turned into a full-on festive blockbuster!
Thanks to the long holiday weekend, Thamma is expected to make serious bank in its extended opening run. Even more excitingly, it now holds the record for the highest opening for an origin story in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), which already includes hits like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. With this kind of buzz, Thamma is well on its way to becoming the next big franchise in the MHCU lineup.
Ayushmann Khurrana said – “Having carved a niche with my unique, quirky films, I was eagerly waiting for that one opportunity to bring my brand of cinema on Diwali – a festival that has seen the biggest of the biggest superstars release their tentpole films in. Thamma Storyline:
Reporter Alok (Ayushmann Khurrana) accidentally stumbles into the hidden world of Betaals; blood-drinkers who’ve lived in secrecy for centuries. Among them is Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), a fiery Betaal with a conscience who tries to protect Alok’s humanity from her own kind and the terrifying Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), also known as Thamma of the group.
But fate has other plans when Alok turns into a Betaal himself, leading to hilarious family chaos as his father (Paresh Rawal) catches on. And just when things can’t get wilder, Varun Dhawan enters for a Bhediya vs Betaal showdown that’s equal parts thrilling and funny, making Thamma a wild mix of horror, fantasy, and comedy.
