One theory that is blowing up online is that his character is inspired by Major Mohit Sharma, one of India’s most legendary Special Forces officers. If you do not know about him, here is a quick refresher. Major Sharma served with the 1st Para (Special Forces) and was known for his unbelievable courage. He was awarded the Ashok Chakra, India’s highest peace-time military award, after he sacrificed his life during a counter-insurgency operation.
In the early 2000s, Major Sharma went undercover as Iftikhar Bhatt and managed to infiltrate Hizbul Mujahideen from the inside. He gained their trust, lived among them, and delivered crucial intel that saved countless lives. His bravery is the stuff of legends.
Now, while the makers have not confirmed whether Ranveer is playing a character based on Major Sharma, the resemblance in styling and tone has fans buzzing nonstop. And honestly, the speculation is half the fun.
Dhurandhar Cast: Who Is Playing What Role?
Sanjay Dutt steps in as SP Chaudhary Aslam, inspired by the real-life Karachi cop Chaudhry Aslam Khan, who was known for taking on the underworld head-on. Akshaye Khanna plays Rehman Dakait, loosely based on the notorious Pakistani gangster Rehman Dakait. R. Madhavan appears as National Security Advisor Ajay Sanyal, a character clearly inspired by India’s legendary spymaster Ajit Doval. And Arjun Rampal joins the mix as Major Iqbal of the ISI.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is rumored to be releasing in two parts, although there is no official announcement of that. What is confirmed is the release date – December 5, 2025. Mark your calendars already!
