Zee5’s Khaali Peeli Movie Review: A Modern Day Romance With A Hint Of The Street Style

Zee5 and Zee Plex‘s recent addition, ‘Khaali Peeli’ starring two of the most desirable young actors in B-town, is a mad ride.

The movie gives us the masala film vibes that a Bollywood audience loves but it is however not a 10/10.

Cast: Ananya Panday, Ishaan Khatter, Jaideep Ahlawat
Directed by: Maqbool Khan
Run time: 2 hours 20 minutes
Ratings: 2.5/5

The film is a modern-day love story with a subtle hint of the street style and a huge dash of action. The storyline revolves around a young couple who were in love with each other in their earlier days but yet never figured out each other’s identities. Now, the two meet in the most inquisitive way after many years.

Their lives become a whole lot more interesting than what it was like before with a whole load of goons chasing after them. In a terrific chase, all Pooja (Ananya Panday) and Blackie (Ishaan Khatter) have to do is make sure they don’t get killed.

Both the characters in the film bond in the most unusual way. The title of the film: Khaali Peeli, indirectly refers to the taxi, which is one of the most used means of transport in the city of Mumbai. However, directly, the film’s title is a phrase, ‘for the heck of it’.

The film portrays Ananya Panday’s character not as a damsel in distress but as an independent young woman who is putting up a fight against something she feels is wronging her. Ishaan Khatter’s character is a macho taxi driver has a lot more to him than what meets the eye. However, the movie has also been dragged for a bit too long with certain scenes unnecessarily added.

Khaali Peeli‘s director, Maqbool Khan, definitely made the story exciting with a romance turned thriller movie idea.

Acting

Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday have both proven to be absolutely adorable people when we’ve watched them on different media platforms. The two share a good sense of acting and certainly do know how to entertain an audience. The only acting flaw in the movie would be the accents of their characters. The two had a very street Bombay accent going on which matched the film in certain places only.
