Storyline

Meenakshi (Sanya Malhotra) is a vibrant, outgoing and cheerful woman who wants her perfect Bollywood romance. Next, we have Sundareshwar (Abhimanyu Dassani), who is the perfect son and an even more perfect husband material kind of man but that’s up to Meenakshi to decide. Both our characters hail from the Tamil Nadu city Madurai and meet each other for the first time while their families arranged for their prospective spouses. The culture of arranged marriages are alive in this one but it’s got a huge twist of fate too.

While Meenakshi is a big Rajnikanth fan who would give it all to spend an entire day watching films, Sundareshwar is your typical smart lad with an engineering degree and an earnest ambition to make a good living. Despite it not being love at first sight, the two end up falling for each other with time and of course get married but what happens when the distance grows between them… quite literally? The newlyweds enjoy a brief time together when Sundareshwar finds himself transferred to Bangalore on the basis of employment.

What do we think?

Meenakshi Sundareshwar is a light-hearted comedy and our lead roles have done a fantastic job, considering the fact neither of them belong to the southern regions. Sanya as always melted our hearts. We’re smitten by her character Meenakshi and the South Indian look is a good one on the actress. Unlike most other roles played by her, Sanya emphasised more on the comical and heartwarming nature her character has. As for Abhimanyu who plays Sudareshwar, this is definitely a more never-seen-before look on him. No action sequences, no fights, no punches left-right-centre, Abhimanyu’s sober yet classy vibe is a nice difference.

Director Vivek Soni has done a marvellous job in portraying these characters without any so-called stereotypes. A successful directorial debut is in the books for Soni with Meenakshi Sundareshwar and it’s got love, warmth, romance, and everything you’d need for the perfect movie package.

Hit or Miss?

Meenakshi Sundareshwar is definitely a HIT. It’s a family watch and it’s also definitely a possible rewatch for romance lovers.
