Storyline

Arjun Pathak (Kartik Aaryan) of the news channel Bharosa 24×7 is known for his quick and precise reporting, giving him a spectacular reputation at his work place. He is married to fellow on-ground reporter Saumya Mehra Pathak (Mrunal Thakur) and the two of them have a happy marriage. That is until an unforeseen event takes place and not only is there a divorce on the cards for Arjun but he loses his post and is now a radio jockey on a channel called Radio Bharosa.

Arjun receives a frantic call one day while in the studio from a man whom we later on understand to be a bomber called Raghubeer Mhata (Soham Majumdar). Abruptly cutting the call, Arjun dismisses this thinking it’s a prank. But that is until he hears a blast behind him, at Mumbai’s Sea Link. While the scared part of him wants to call the police, the ambitious side of him wants to make sure he gets an exclusive scoop on this. Going back to his former channel, Arjun convinces them to let him take this bomber on a live interview. However, all hell breaks loose when he realises his ex-wife Saumya is the live reported on the Sea Link.

What do we think?

Kartik Aaryan, who plays Arjun, is in a never before seen role that is executed to perfection. The actor has always been seen in the ‘boy next door’ image in Bollywood but this new serious look is much appreciated too. Adding another feather to his cap by playing out such a genre, Kartik is one of this generation’s finest performers.

Director Ram Madhvani has made sure his audience has tight holds on their seats all the way until the end of the movie. The sequence of the story, the cinematograpy (by Manu Anand) and the thriller suspense elements were all lined up expertly. While Mrunal Thakur has but a cameo role, her impact is not forgotten up until the end.

Hit or Miss

With fine acting like this keeping you occupied throughout the film, it’s definitely a HIT. All you need is a bowl of popcorn and a promise made to yourself that you won’t drop it at all the shaking events Dhamaka has to offer.
