Director: Sooraj Barjatya

Storyline:

Bhupen (Danny) may be an old man but he has a true zest for life. It is his fervent wish to trek to Everest Base Camp with his faithful trio of friends – Javed (Boman), Om (Anupam) and Amit (Big B).

But Bhupen passes away suddenly after his birthday. The 3 grieving friends decide to fulfil his wish of going to the Everest Base Camp and scatter his ashes in the place that his heart always longed for.

However, owing to their advanced age, Om’s wife (Neena) is highly apprehensive about the tough journey that they’re about to take and makes her displeasure evident.

Parineeti Chopra features as the tough tour guide accompanying the trio on the trip. Sarika appears as a grieving woman with a past connection to Bhupen. She wants to undertake the trek with the others as a part of her penance.

Will Javed, Om and Amit make it safely to the Everest Base Camp despite their age? Watch Uunchai to find out –

What Do We Think:

Uunchai is an emotional, heart-warming, family-friendly film. Along with the life-changing journey of the trio, Uunchai also ponders upon the young vs old family dynamics without getting too preachy.

The main cast – Big B, Anupam and Boman Irani, have given solid, energetic performances and even Parineeti as the hot-headed tour guide fits in pleasantly. However, the film is quite a slowburn and predictable. Nafisa Ali has a brief cameo but her arc with Amitabh is treated a little too quickly.

Neena Gupta is charming as ever. Sarika is endearing in her role. Apart from Keti Ko, the soundtrack is largely forgettable though.

Hit Or Miss:

Uunchai will appeal to the family audience more. Catch it in the theatres with your family if you’re in the mood for a feel-good film.
