In an exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood, the Bhool Chuk Maaf actor opened up about one of his earliest and most heartwarming memories of coming to Mumbai. And it involves Boogie Woogie, a train ride, Mannat, and even a night at the railway station.

Rajkummar shared, “The first time I came to Mumbai, I was in 10th grade. I wanted to audition for Boogie Woogie and really wanted to see the city as well.”
With just ₹5,000 borrowed from a generous aunt in the extended family, Rajkummar and his younger brother, who was just a kid at the time, set out on an adventure. “My younger brother, who’s four years younger than me, and I jumped on a train and made our way to Bombay. I auditioned for Boogie Woogie but didn’t get it.”

Even though the audition didn’t work out, Rajkummar didn’t let the rejection dull his excitement. Like countless fans from across the country, he made his way to Mannat, the home of his idol Shah Rukh Khan. “I used to spend hours just hanging around outside Mannat (Shah Rukh Khan’s house),” he revealed with a smile.
That short trip to Mumbai turned out to be unforgettable in more ways than one. Rajkummar said they stayed for two nights in the city. “I think we were in Mumbai for two nights — one night, we managed it somehow in a mediocre hotel. And one night we had to spend at the station, because we had ran out of money, and had to catch the train also.”

Yes, you read that right. Rajkummar Rao, who is now among the finest talents of Bollywood, once spent a night at a railway station just to chase his dreams. It’s the kind of story that feels straight out of a movie, but it’s all real.
When asked if Shah Rukh Khan knows about this chapter from his life, Rajkummar confirmed, “He knows! He’s so charming and makes everyone feel really special. So, he’s totally aware of my love for him.”
