In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, the Hera Pheri actor opened up about why he’s stayed away from alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and even the temptation of endorsing them, despite the kind of money it could bring.
The credit, he says, goes to martial arts.
“So whether it was alcohol, cigarettes, partying too hard or too much, drugs, anything that was substance abuse, it never worked for me.”
From the very beginning, Suniel knew that strength doesn’t come from flexing muscles or lifting weights alone. For him, true power meant having control over your mind, your choices, and your habits. And martial arts taught him that. He says it gave him the kind of discipline that stayed with him for life.

Even as parties, fame, and free-flowing drinks surrounded him in Bollywood, he wasn’t tempted.
“You know, there are a lot of ads I could do today that would pay me really well. But it doesn’t matter to me. Whether it’s alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco, pan parag, I’ll never endorse them.”
Now that’s a strong stand. He doesn’t believe in pushing products that go against his values, no matter the price tag.
His love for sports also kept him grounded. He grew up learning from gurus, and those early lessons stuck with him. Indian values, clean living, and staying physically active were always part of his core.
“So people don’t even approach me. And when they don’t approach me, I never face the temptation. I never will. It doesn’t bother me.”
While many might see staying away from such endorsements as a lost opportunity, Suniel sees it as peace of mind.
