De De Pyaar De 2 Movie Review: Ajay Devgn-Rakul Preet’s Age Gap Romance Is Breezy And Fun!

Rating: 3.5/5

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, R Madhavan, Gautami Kapoor, Meezaan Jafri

Director: Anshul Sharma

Storyline:

This time around it’s Ashish’s (Ajay Devgn) turn to meet Ayesha’s (Rakul Preet Singh) family. Her parents (played by Gautami Kapoor and R. Madhavan) are ‘educated, modern, progressive’ people, but even they can’t quite stomach the huge age-gap between Ayesha and Ashish.

Instead of welcoming Ashish, they throw a twist into the mix – another suitor for their daughter, one who’s younger, age-appropriate, and undeniably charming, played by Meezaan Jafri. Cue fireworks, jealousy, and Ashish trying to prove he’s the right man for Ayesha. Will love prevail in this pyaar vs parivaar saga?

De De Pyaar De 2 Movie Review:

De De Pyaar De 2 doesn’t try too hard, yet lands its punches in all the right places. The film has an easy, breezy vibe and the humour flows naturally enough.

R Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor as Ayesha’s over smart, over strategic parents are hilariously chaotic. The viral joke about Ajay Devgn finally getting ‘revenge’ on Madhavan after Shaitaan adds a fun meta layer, and the cheeky ‘daughter vashikaran’ gag lands perfectly. Madhavan is mostly on point, though he does slip into slight hamming during the climax.

Ajay Devgn, on the other hand, seems a little too relaxed for a man fighting for love. He brings energy in the comic bits, but for the rest he seems content to sleepwalk through the film with a rather lethargic performance. Thankfully, his lack of energy is compensated by Rakul Preet Singh… who is a live wire throughout. She is feisty, confident, and gets a role with clear agency. Her Ayesha does the heavy-lifting and steals the spotlight.

The handsome Meezaan Jafri adds the swoon factor. He is charming, smooth, and has an effortless chemistry with Rakul that is fun to watch. Javed Jaffery pops up every now and then to keep the laughs flowing.

The songs are generic and do not linger, but the bigger issue is the finale sequence, which is stretched beyond its welcome. The climax drags and slightly dents the otherwise breezy pacing. Nevertheless, the overall vibe of the film is cheerful enough to gloss over that. In short, it is light, funny, and totally watchable. Good enough weekend popcorn fun.
