The period action drama by SS Rajamouli, RRR (Roudram Ranam Rudhiram), is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. Essaying the pivotal role of ‘Sita’, this magnum opus is supposed to mark Alia Bhatt’s foray into Telugu film industry.
Earlier reports were rife that Alia was exiting RRR due to time constraints, but the actress dismissed them by revealing the motion poster of the film on her Instagram.
But there appears to be more trouble brewing around the movie. Even though the Telangana government had granted permission to resume shooting amid lockdown in a limited manner, the rise in COVID-19 cases in Hyderabad led to cancellation of RRR’s trial shoot.
And recently, after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, when the topic of nepotism was revived, Alia Bhatt faced severe backlash and criticism on social media. As per Filmibeat, fans have sent messages and threats to SS Rajamouli to replace Alia in the movie. The director has yet to comment on the issue.
About RRR
Set in the 1920’s pre-independent India, this fictional story is based on two legendary freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR respectively. Shriya Saran will also be seen in a crucial role.
Besides Bollywood stars like Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, the period action drama also features various foreign actors like Olivia Morris, Alison Doody and Ray Stevenson in pivotal roles. The ensemble movie has completed 75 per cent of the shooting and is tentatively scheduled for release on January 8, 2021.
