Ram Gopal Varma is no stranger to controversies and it looks like another one has come his way. The Telangana Police have booked RGV and his producer Natti Karuna for their film Murder at Miryalaguda Town.
The film is about the honour killing of Pranay Perumalla who was apparently murdered by his father in law Maruthi Rao who stood against the marriage of his daughter with Pranay.
The father of Pranay Kumar, P. Balaswamy, filed a petition which has reached the court. RGV and Natti Karuna have been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and other sections of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act.
P. Balaswamy had requested a ban on the film and also complained that pictures of his son and daughter in law were being used without prior consent.
In response to the allegation and police complaint, Varma tweeted on the 5th of July saying, “I specifically mentioned that I have no intention to demean or degrade anyone and my film is just a creative work based on a subject which is in the public domain ..But as a citizen who respects the law i too will proceed legally to protect my fundamental rights.”
He also tweeted, “With regard to the case filed on the basis of uninformed speculations, our advocates will give an appropriate reply as required by law.”
