Kangana talks about Outsiders, Movie Mafia and Tolerance for Different Minds

In an interview with TOI, Kangana Ranaut opened up on her struggle for Justice for Sushant, nepotism, the B-Grade Outsiders remarks and much more.

Kangana explained her stance on Outsiders with Swara and Taapsee’s examples. She stated that no matter how much an Outsider tries to fit in and become an Insider, they’re not.

If you think you are fitting in and now you have also become insiders, no, you’re not.” says Kangana

“When Swara says that ‘I’m Sonam Kapoor’s best friend’, that’s not how the world perceives her. No! No matter how much Taapsee Pannu says that everybody loves her, and she has gotten equal opportunities, no! People do not perceive her as somebody who is an equal to an Alia Bhatt or Ananya Pandey. No! So that’s what I try to convey – that no matter how much you try and fit in, you are not fitting in. If you are not seeing it, let me show you – in their world, you are still B-grade. I have been through those galis, I know where it goes! So that’s what I try to convey to them. If you think you are fitting in and now you have also become insiders, no, you’re not.

Kangana also commented that there was a quota for Outsiders. She also emphasized if Outsiders knew their worth, they should not be seeking acceptance

“Outsiders also have different kind of personalities and different kind of talent. They do have quota for outsiders, you know. Like you can take B-grade spot or C-grade spot, that’s fine. But when you have the calibre of being on top, and you know, somebody like him (Sushant), then it is not fine. Then they are gonna not accept you. So if you know your worth, don’t seek their acceptance.”

Here's how Twitter reacted to Karan Johar's statement against ...
“If you are able to be a part of the system, you should fit in. But never ever should you point a finger at another outsider and say “Their struggle is fake. Kangana is saying Karan Johar is evil, it can’t be true.”

Kangana also highlighted that even if an Outsider was able to fit into the system, they shouldn’t disregard other’s struggle

If you are able to fit in, and if you are able to be a part of the system, you should fit in. But never ever should you point a finger at another outsider and say “Their struggle is fake. Kangana is saying Karan Johar is evil, it can’t be true.” Well, he can be nice to you. I believe he can be. But you also say – I have all the respect for her struggle, I have all the respect for what Sushant must have gone through, and it could be a potential murder, please go find out. You should not, you know, completely disregard others’ struggle.”

They banned him, they did bad PR for himI am sure they just wanted to teach him a lesson.

Kangana again emphasized – “On your merit you can get a rank in India, on your merit you can go to Stanford, buy land on moon, be a great actor, but on your merit you cannot get their love, their acceptance.”

Talking about the system and the ‘Movie Mafia’, Kangana elaborated on how when capitalism is mixed with nepotism it becomes a toxic combination where people are just killed.

“They want that kind of comfort that we will serve you s**t and you have to eat. They want that, so they are controlling this whole system. They banned him, they did bad PR for him. They are completely oblivious to others’ pain, state of mind, others’ emotions, to an extent that they have no idea that he is on the verge of breakdown. I am sure they just wanted to teach him a lesson. They have no idea, they have gone to the extent that this boy just left. So when capitalism is mixed with nepotism it becomes a toxic combination of this proportion where people are just killed.”

“There is no tolerance for a different mind in the industry… He was that another mind.”

Kangana pointed out how there was no tolerance for a different mind in the industry, and how Sushant was that different mind with his scientific bent and artistic sensibility.

“If had he not had that kind of longing to be accepted, and he would have kept doing what he did, maybe he would have made films like Interstellar. Kab tak hum log ye saas-bahu ke episode dekhenge, yaar? There is no tolerance for a different mind in this industry. These films are all still talking love stories. 50-year-old men are falling in love. He was that another mind.

The films Sushant could have made if tomorrow he had a production house, who will make those films now? From where will we get such a genius boy who had both scientific bent and artistic sensibility. Impossible combination. Is it possible for these mafia people? They can’t even be his toenail. They want to make ‘ Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘ Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’… Look at the name of the film – ‘ Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’!”

“You have the democratic right of making what you want to make. But let him survive also na… we need more tolerance for different thinking people.”

Kangana concluded by saying that the film industry needed more variety, more tolerance for different thinking people and different backgrounds for its growth.

I am saying you have the democratic right of making what you want to make. But let him survive also na. Let him be in the corner. He was not asking you for any favour. We need variety in the film industry. Where will another Sushant come from now? We need more tolerance for different thinking people. People from different backgrounds. We need that in our film industry. That’s how the film industry will grow, otherwise, we will have to see films like ‘ Befikre’ and ‘ Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ all our lives.
