Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is what is needed to be watched if you want an actual insight on the life of an everyday self-supported woman.

The movie brings to life many unsung thoughts going through a woman’s mind but it also sings a victorious rebellion.

The storyline absorbs every aspect of a working woman’s life in the city of Noida, where two women are seen, leading immensely different lives, but somehow manage to connect on the grounds of feminine sanity.

Sisters, Dolly (Konkona Sen) and Kitty (Bhumi Pednekar) are all you need to keep focus on, but that won’t be hard as this dynamic duo already steal the spotlight in the film.

Sisters Before Misters

What’s more intense than most of the movie is the bond the two sisters share. Dolly and Kitty are inseparable. Sure, they have their drifts but they’re always shown as caring characters when it comes to each other.

While Dolly has her struggles with her husband, Kitty too has her own share of problems being the eye candy of multiple loafers during her late-night walks back home. Kitty’s workplace demands her to interact with men all along when she suddenly finds herself falling in love with a man who at the end deceives her. Naturally, she seeks comfort in her sister who is her only ray of sunshine when she finds herself in such a situation.

Dolly, on the other hand, also happens to have fallouts with her husband who initially tries touching Kitty inappropriately. Dolly then finds herself eyeing a younger delivery boy with whom she feels at much more ease. That is until the delivery boy is shot dead. After her life’s dilemma, she too seeks comfort in her younger sister.

(Real) Men Don’t Eat Vegetables

The male characters in the film, though they come off as the more powerful ones, it can be seen that somewhere down the line, the women are the leading ladies. Be it for arranging the house, or for deciding which new A.C to purchase, or when it comes down to who makes the ‘chai’. Without women, the men have no support system that allows them to survive their roles.

Dolly’s husband, Amit (Aamir Bashir), finds himself to be helpless when Dolly leaves as it had always been her who had kept the family running and going. At her workplace, her boss feels helpless as she makes a cup of tea for herself and not for him.

Similarly, the movie depicts the role of women in society and how powerful their characters actually are although it may never come off to be so.

Acting

The movie’s casting is extremely apt as the actors not only match the appearance of their characters but also match the emotional strength the characters deliver.

Bhumi Pednekar and Konkona Sen especially have proved themselves to be the pillars of the movie with their grand performances.

Hit or Miss?

Although the movie has made its mark on the ‘Dynamic Movie’ list, it would seem a little too repetitive if watched over and over. The film may tend to lose its impact as a power holding film.

Definitely a hit, but it is also a one time watch.
