UK based weekly newspaper ‘Eastern Eye’ has published the ‘50 Asian Celebrities in The World’ list. Guess who tops this list?
According to a Hindustan Times report, Indian actor Sonu Sood has topped the list of 50 Asian Celebrities in the World for his philanthropic efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reacting to the news, the 47-year-old actor said, “Thank you, Eastern Eye, for recognizing my efforts. As the pandemic broke, I realized it was my duty to help my countrymen, it was an instinct that came from within.”
“Eventually, this was something I came to Mumbai for. It was my responsibility as an Indian, which I did. I think all the love of the people which I received was simply their wishes and prayers. Once again, I won’t stop till my last breath,” Sonu further added.
The list of top 50 Asian celebrities in the world, is based on those who did good work, made a positive impact, broke boundaries, gave hope, did philanthropic deeds, or were just inspiring in their own unique way. There was also big public input as millions of posts were generated by social media users nominating their favorite star of the year.
‘Eastern Eye’ entertainment editor Asjad Nazir compiled the list. He said Sood was a deserving winner because no celebrity did as much to help others during the lockdown.
YouTuber and TV host Lily Singh is second on the list for “her pathbreaking journey, remarkable output and entertaining audiences most when they needed it”.
Other Indian personalities from the world of cinema, music, and fashion who feature in the list this year include Dev Patel at fourth, Armaan Malik at the fifth position, Priyanka Chopra at sixth, Telugu superstar Prabhas at seventh, Ayushmann Khurrana (11).
The list also includes Diljit Dosanjh (14), Shehnaaz Gill (16), Amitabh Bachchan (20), Pankaj Tripathi (23), Asim Riaz (25), designer Masaba Gupta (32), comedian Saloni Gaur (36), Dhvani Bhanushali (42), Helly Shah (47) and Anoushka Shankar (50).
The full list will be published in the Eastern Eye newspaper on December 11.
