Huma Qureshi is reuniting with her ‘Jolly LLB 2’ director Subhash Kapoor for his upcoming web series ‘Maharani’.
This multi-season political drama will be streaming on Sony LIV.
As per an earlier Peeping Moon report, the show, which will reportedly be a hard-hitting social satire, will showcase the journey of an unexpected political leader, played by Huma, and the ups and downs in her political career.
Now, we got some more deets about this drama series.
According to Mid-day, Huma’s character in ‘Maharani’ is loosely based on Bihar’s first female Chief Minister Ravri Debi.
“Through Huma’s character that is loosely inspired by Rabri Devi, the multi-season series will see how an unexpected player, who had little hopes of a political career, rises up the ranks,” a source revealed to the portal.
In 1997, Ravri Devi became Bihar’s first woman CM but her appointment was widely criticized by opposing parties, psephologists, and media. When then-chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had to resign from the post due to his alleged involvement in the fodder scam, many believed it was his tactic to hold on to the control of the state, while making his wife the ceremonial head. Without any formal education and little interest in politics, Devi went on to serve three terms.
Helmed by Subhash Kapoor, debutant Karan Sharma has been roped in to direct this show. Sohum Shah will be seen portraying the role of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
