Not Big B – WHO Was The 1st Choice For RGV’s ‘Sarkar’ Movie?

Date:

Ram Gopal Varma turns 59 years old today… Happy Birthday!

Or as the filmmaker himself has morbidly written on Twitter“Not my birthday but it’s my deathday today because one more year in my life died today!” Dramatic much?

On this special occasion, we have a special throwback to celebrate with. Let’s talk about one of RGV’s solid hits – the political crime thriller ‘Sarkar’ based on the 1972 American film ‘The Godfather’.

Sarkar featured the majestic Amitabh Bachchan in the titular role and his magnetic performance made the movie what it is. However, did you know Big B was not the 1st choice for the film?

Sanjay Dutt was the 1st choice movie was being made under another name

As per Bollywood Life report, Sarkar was actually going to be made under another name; ‘Nayak’ with SANJAY DUTT in the lead role. In fact, he had even completed 20 days of shooting it. However, since at that time Sanjay was entangled in court trials and jail term, the project ended up getting shelved.

It was later revived as the 2005 film ‘Sarkar’ with real-life father-son duo Amitabh-Abhishek Bachchan headlining the project.
