National award-winning actress Surekha Sikri died from cardiac arrest today (16 July 2021) at the age of 75!

There were complications in her health for quite some time – she had previously suffered a paralytic stroke and 2 brain strokes.

The late actress is survived by son Rahul Sikri. Last seen in Netflix’s ‘Ghost Stories’, Surekha was best known as Kalyani Devi in ‘Balika Vadhu’ show. Did you know the actress won the National award (Best Supporting Actress) thrice?

She bagged her 1st National Award for 1988 period film ‘Tamas’, set against the backdrop of partition. She won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Rajo.

Later on, she bagged another National award in 1994 for her supporting role as Fayyazi in Shyam Benegal’s ‘Mammo’. And lastly, she won her 3rd Best Supporting Actress National Award for 2018 comedy-drama ‘Badhaai Ho’, wherein she played the adorable grandmother Durga Devi Kaushik.
