’14 Phere’ Movie Review: Vikrant Massey & Kriti Kharbanda Have A Twisted Yet Comical Romance

Date:

14 Phere is a Devanshu Kumar directorial inclining towards society and its deranged norms.

Released on the OTT Zee5, the movie is a comedy with its own reality hitting tinge.

Directed by: Devanshu Kumar
Run Time: 1h 51min
Ratings: 3.5/5
Cast: Vikrant Massey, Kriti Kharbanda, Gauahar Khan, Vineet Kumar, Priyanshu Singh, Jameel Khan

Storyline

Sanjay (Vikrant Massey) and Aditi (Kriti Kharbanda) are college sweethearts who come from different castes, an automatic restriction in both the families. The pair have an adorable college romance and eventually end up working together at the same company. However, the repercussions of marrying outside the family hit too close to home with Sanjay’s sister eloping. In the following years, Sanjay and Aditi decide on marrying each other but knowing their families will object to it, they device a plan to fool the lot.

Hiring actors from Aditi’s theatre club, the two of them put on a show where they exchange ‘dummy parents’ in front of their real ones. As the title of the movie suggests, they also prepare two weddings, one for each of their families respectively. Their plan is in progress and everything works out as smoothly as possible. Alas, all good things come to an end and the families catch them, red handed.

What we think

14 Phere has its own ups and downs but we’d like to credit the cast and crew for making such an absurd story hilarious and fun to watch. While the film has mentions of honour killing and caste system, both of which are extremely ugly practices, they also bring in the reality of how neither of these benefit the society or the families involved. As far as Vikram Massey and Kriti Kharbanda are concerned, the two make a lovely pair and show ease in their relationship which is delightful to watch.

While the rest of the cast has done a fantastic job, we feel Gauahar Khan’s role as Zubina was a little exaggerated. Gauahar may have put on a fantastic show but was no where close to an old woman even under kilograms of makeup. Director Devanshu Kumar has done an outstanding job with the flow of the story, making it an enjoyable sequence.

Hit or Miss

For a romance comedy, we consider this a definite hit. The storyline, cast and direction worked in perfect sync and we’re loving Kriti-Vikrant together.
