Bollywood’s legend and King of Romance – Shah Rukh Khan, celebrates his 56th birthday today.
SRK’s love story with Gauri Khan is the stuff dreams are made of. After a 6-year long relationship, the duo got married on 25 October 1991!
While the B-Town’s power couple have had close to 3 decades of marital bliss together till now, their journey had a rough start initially.
In true Bollywood style, SRK faced quite some hurdles trying to convince Gauri’s family about their marriage. Film critic and author Anupama Chopra had spilt the filmi deets in the book – ‘King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema’.
Gauri’s father was reluctant about her marriage to SRK, given his acting career. Moreover, her mother had even gone to an astrologer and tried to break the duo apart! Shockingly, our evergreen romantic hero was also threatened by Gauri’s brother Vikrant at GUNPOINT! Phew, talk about intense action!
As per an excerpt from the book – “Vikrant had a reputation of being a goonda (thug). He threatened Shah Rukh with a gun, but the posturing didn’t scare his sister’s suitor.”
Despite all odds, SRK-Gauri got hitched and now continue to be a powerful symbol of interfaith marriage and love. Kudos to Khans!
On the work front, SRK is slated to make his comeback to the big screen with Pathan, co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. He also has a pan-Indian film planned with Atlee, tentatively titled Lion, which stars Nayanthara.
