‘Atrangi Re’ – starring Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush – has been hitting headlines for all the good reasons.
Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the romantic musical is set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24, 2021!
Since the release of the ‘Atrangi Re’ trailer, the casting – a young actress romancing actor much older than her – hasn’t set well with a certain section of the audience. Netizens have raised eyebrows over the 28-YEAR age gap between Sara, who is currently 26 years old, & the 54-year-old Akshay.
However, did you guys know Akshay was NOT the first choice for the role of the magician Sajjad Ali?
If this media report is to be believed, Aanand L. Rai had initially approached Salman Khan & Hrithik Roshan for the magician’s role. Yes, the filmmaker wanted to cast either of the two B-Town handsome hunks for Akshay’s role.
An insider informed the portal – “The soul of Atrangi Re, lies in the concept of desirable men and hence, the first actor that came in Rai’s mind to play the role of a desirable magician turned lover was Salman Khan. While the superstar loved the concept, things didn’t fall in place for reasons best known to the two.”
“Again, much like Salman, Hrithik too is among the most desirable actors of Hindi cinema with an unmatched fan following among females. The two had multiple meetings, and Hrithik was on the verge of signing the film before finally letting go of it at the last moment,” the source added.

The story revolves around Rinku (Sara Ali Khan) and her relationship with Vishu (Dhanush), with whom she is forcibly married. Soon, they both started liking each other but the entry of Sajjad (Akshay Kumar), Rinku’s lover, changes everything.
