The talented Kalki Koechlin celebrates her 38th birthday today.
From Margarita With A Straw and YJHD to series like Made In Heaven, Kalki has been a part of excellent projects in both spaces.
Did you know Kalki had married Anurag Kashyap – the director of her debut film ‘Dev D’ ? The duo had parted ways in 2015 after 4 years of marriage.
Kalki played the role of Chanda in Dev D, which was a modern adaptation of the classic Bengali novel Devdas. The film turned out to be a critical as well as a commercial success eventually. But Kalki was INITIALLY REJECTED for the role as Anurag had dismissed her portfolio!
“While the producers of ‘Dev D’ directly contacted me to audition for the role of Chanda, Anurag Kashyap was completely against the idea. After seeing my portfolio, Anurag rejected me stating that I was not an Indian and did not look the role,” Kalki told the media.
But the production house secretly took her audition and made Anurag watch her tape.
“After hesitantly agreeing to watch the audition, he was so impressed that he immediately called me and offered me to play the part,” Kalki said.
