Storyline:
When the beloved matriarch of the family – Gayatri (Neena Gupta) dies suddenly, it’s like the glue that holds everything together has fallen apart.
Her husband Harish (Big B) is absolutely at a loss for words. When the whole family reunites at the funeral, the awkward and tense friction between the members rears its ugly head.
Tara (Rashmika), is the rebel kid of the bunch with a Muslim boyfriend (Shivin Narang), always locking horns with her traditionalist father.
Karan (Pavail Gulati) is the workaholic beta with a foreign wife (Elli AvRam) who won’t take his Air Pods off even while carrying his dead mother’s body. Gayatri’s self-confessed favourite is their adopted Sikh son Angad (Sahil Mehta) who pisses off the father for indulging in butter chicken during the mourning period.
Lastly, there’s Nakul (Abhishekh Khan) who’s blissfully trekking away out of reach, completely oblivious to his mother’s death.

What Do We Think:
Goodbye nicely balances the humour, sentimentality and emotion in this funeral dramedy.
Neena Gupta is a warm shining presence who deserved more screen time in flashbacks. Big B is dependable as ever and gives his trademark emotional monologue in Goodbye as well.
Rashmika Mandanna holds her own against Big B, but her heavily accented Hindi is a bit distracting, especially given the setting of a Punjabi household. Pavail Gulati and Elli AvRam make for a cute pairing and have given heartwarming performances.
A special shout-out to Sunil Grover, who plays a modern Pandit cheekily imparting wisdom. He absolutely shines in the few moments he has!
While the trailer gave us all Piku vibes, the movie feels more like Baghban. From generation gaps to tackling the conflict between tradition vs modernity, Goodbye does an engaging job.
It is a heartfelt, slice-of-life drama – you can watch this if you’re in the mood for something slowburn at the moment. One particularly beautiful scene is the Amitabh-Neena love story animated montage, it’s a cute moment to witness!
