Directed by Mani Ratnam, the Ponniyin Selvan films are based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan. PS-2 continues from where the last part left off.
Ponniyin Selvan 1 Recap:
When Emperor Sundara Chola’s (Prakash Raj) health starts failing, a coup is planned to overthrow his heir – Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan (Vikram). Karikalan’s trusted warrior Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) is sent on a mission to get to the bottom of the conspiracy.
Meanwhile, Prince Aditha’s former love interest Nandini (Aishwarya) who is now the Pazhuvoor queen, is setting her pieces in motion to bring about the downfall of Cholas. Vanthiyathevan is caught in a crossfire between the clever schemes of Chola Princess Kundavai (Trisha) and Nandini.
The titular Ponniyin Selvan aka Prince Arulmozhi (brother of Aditha played by Jayam Ravi) becomes the target of Pandyan rebels in Sri Lanka. In the massive battle that follows in the climax, it is assumed that Arulmozhi has drowned and died. However, a mysterious old woman named Mandakini (Aishwarya Rai in a double role) saves him.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Trailer Story –
Continuing on from the 1st part – there are talks about dividing the land of the Chola kingdom between Madhuranthakan Devar and Aditha Karikalan, about which the latter is very displeased.
Arulmozhi, who was presumed to be dead, has survived after Mandakini saved him from drowning in the river. The Pandyan rebels have now made Aditha their new target. Nandini’s thirst for revenge is strong as ever and she has sworn that Aditha will die at her hands.
A special relationship appears to bloom between Princess Kundavai and Vanthiyathevan. Epic battle scenes and political intrigue awaits us in Ponniyin Selvan 2!
