Plotline:
Satya Prabhakar (played by Rakul Preet Singh) is a successful working woman who gets engaged to her boyfriend-co-worker Vishal (played by Akshay Oberoi) just before flying off to Delhi to celebrate Diwali with her family. Vishal, too, was supposed to join her for their family dinner plan.
Rakesh Oberoi aka RO (played by Pavail Gulati) works in the same office’s technical department. RO, who happens to be one of her good friends, also books a flight to Delhi.
Nobody makes it to the airport as Satya gets trapped inside her office alone. Little did she know that her life would change completely overnight.
Unable to get in touch with anybody, she somehow manages to get hold of Rakesh who comes immediately to her rescue. Things take a nasty turn as soon as she finds out the real face of her so-called close friend RO.
Satya has been held captive by RO and she battles to survive the tragic night. What happens next? Does she manage to escape?
What Do We Think?
First things first, I Love You feels like a weak attempt to adapt Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla & Sunny Deol starrer Darr without the iconic “K… K… Kiran.” From Rakesh listening to “Osaka Muraiya” from SRK-Juhi’s movie One 2 Ka Four to him forcing Satya to sing “Tu Mere Saamne” from Darr… The film is a bland ode to the 90s’ SRK.
Even though the trailer is gripping and intriguing, the movie lacks the thrill to keep you hooked and doesn’t have much to offer.
The entire plot is predictable and wuite forgettable. Writer-director Nikhil Mahajan didn’t waste any time building up the mystery.
The second half shows nothing but RO (attacker) and Satya (escaper) running from one place to another. Well, thanks to the duration of the movie – one-hour-33-minutes only – it doesn’t test your patience.
The characters are not given any backstory. Rakul tries to shoulder the movie but fails. She looks pretty but her expressions fall flat in some of the intense scenes.
Pavail does a pretty good job in his role as a creepy stalker and obsessive lover, RO. From dancing to “Jumma Chumma De De” to listening to SRK songs, he is fun to watch. But sadly, the weak script lets him down. Akshay Oberoi manages to make his presence felt with his limited screen time.
HIT Or MISS?
Overall, I Love You is a stalker-thriller that is predictable from the very first frame. The movie fails to keep you hooked and you might wanna give it a miss. Instead, you can watch Shahid Kapoor’s Bloody Daddy, streaming free on JioCinema.
