Pankaj Tripathi starrer political biopic hit theatres yesterday (January 19).
Main Atal Hoon – directed by National Award winner Ravi Jadhav – is the biopic of our esteemed Former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Pankaj Tripathi slips into shoes of the late PM. He stars in the extraordinary titular role – portraying the myriad shades of Atal ji who was not only an honourable politician and statesman but also a thought-provoking poet.
The film starts from Atal’s childhood and follows the ups and downs of his political career.
Main Atal Hoon Box Office Collection Day 1:
According to reports, the movie opened to a lukewarm response at the box office. As reported by Sacnilk, Main Atal Hoon managed to rake in only Rs 1 crore (early estimates) on Friday.
As per reports, the movie had an overall 9.39% Hindi occupancy on Friday with an audience turn-up rate of 6.11% for the morning shows while it had 8.28% and 14.87% for the evening and night shows respectively.
Talking about late Vajpayee, Tripathi told ANI –
“The personality of Atal Bihari Vajpayee is such that it cannot be compared to present-day politicians. He was a poet… He was a leader whose staunchest enemies were also his admirers. I’ve learned that a person should be democratic from the inside; that even when I’m upset with you, I know deep down that I’m angry with you and you don’t like me, but I still enjoy this. He motivates you to believe that everyone can do anything in life.”
He also shared how he prepared for the role. He said –
“I was wondering if I could do justice to this. But I have attended two of Atal ji’s political rallies. I went to listen to him, standing in the crowd five hundred metres away.”
