Blackout Movie Review: This Vikrant Massey-starrer Ends Up Being A Hit-And-Miss Comedy

Rating: 3/5

Director:  Devang Bhavsar

Cast: Vikrant Massey, Sunil Grover, Mouni Roy, Jisshu Sengupta, Saurabh Ghadge, Karan Sonawane

Storyline:

Blackout takes place on a fateful night in Pune – as a young crime reporter finds himself entangled in an unbelievably chaotic mess, where everything that can possibly go wrong for him, does!

The film follows journalist Lenny (Vikrant Massey) – who thinks his luck has changed after he discovers some loot in a car crash. But of course, making off with the fortune in the dark of the night is not as easy as it seems.

A homeless drunk (Sunil Grover), a zany duo of thieves (Saurabh Ghadge, Karan Sonawane), a suspicious damsel-in-distress (Mouni Roy) and a shady detective (Jisshu Sengupta) pose increasing hurdles for Lenny.

Throw in some gangsters, some betrayal, some secret pasts…. and you have the hilarious comedy-caper of Blackout!

Blackout Movie Review:

Blackout ends up being a hit-and-miss black comedy. It is packed with a lot of wacky sequences; some work, some end up feeling ludicrous and fall flat. The humour feels forced at some points.

This Vikrant Massey-starrer has all the right quintessential ingredients, but they’re not mixed correctly – leading to a rather hodge-podge presentation, lacking cohesion. Vikrant Massey gets a meaty role as the down-on-his-luck journalist. While the actor is usually an exceptional performer, he’s sadly off the mark here, hamming it up in the comic scenes.

Sunil Grover stands out in this hilarious ensemble, with a masterful performance – his comic timing is on-point and his eccentric slapstick comedy works as well. Mouni Roy appears in a rather underwritten, flowerpot role albeit looking glamorous.

Karan Sonawane and Saurabh Ghadge as the crackpot duo infuse hilarity into every situation and it mostly works, but some gags are unfunny.

Overall, Blackout is entertaining but a rather oddly-paced comedy.
