EXCLUSIVE: Rajkummar Rao Talks About Growing Up In A Joint Family — “14 People In The House, One Washroom”
“Childhood was full of fun. I’ve grown up in a joint family,” he said with a smile.
Rajkummar shared that he lived with a total of 14 people under one roof. That included his grandparents, parents, siblings, uncles, and cousins. Despite the large number of people in the house, there was just one bathroom.

“It was my grandparents, my mom, dad, and us three siblings. Plus my uncle and his two kids, and then my other uncle and his kids. Total, that’s 14 people living in one house. We used to have one bathroom, and we never really had any issues. Everything was running smoothly, all organized.”
While many might find that situation difficult to handle, Rajkummar remembered it fondly. It didn’t feel chaotic. In fact, it was filled with warmth, laughter, and strong bonds.
When asked about fights in such a big family, he was quick to admit that small arguments did happen.
“Did we ever fight? Well, you know, there were fights like in any household, for sure.”
But the bond between the kids in the family was always solid.

Rajkummar Rao Says He’s Still Tight-Knit With Siblings
“Like everyone else, we had our little fights over silly stuff. But us kids never did really fight. I think we’re really close even today. I don’t see them as just my first cousins; they feel more like my brothers and sisters. So, we never had any major arguments. We were pretty sure that if the adults were having a little spat, we’d just let them be. We’re really tight-knit.”
His memories are a beautiful reminder of how joint families, no matter how crowded they seem, can be full of love, support, and shared joy. Rajkummar’s story is a sweet throwback to simpler times when family meant everything and even one bathroom was enough.
In today’s fast-paced world, his childhood experience offers a heartwarming glimpse into the joy of togetherness and the little things that truly matter.
