EXCLUSIVE: Rajkummar Rao Remembers the Time He Had Only ₹18 In His Account

Before he became a well-known face in Indian cinema, Rajkummar Rao lived the classic struggler’s life. Like many aspiring actors, his journey was filled with small moments that shaped his story.

One of them was a memory he recently shared in an exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood, where he had just ₹18 left in his bank account.

Rajkummar studied acting at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), a place that gave him not just skills but also a strong support system of friends who were going through the same ups and downs. Talking about that difficult but memorable time, Rajkummar gave fans a rare glimpse into the reality of his early days.

In a nostalgic moment, he shared:

“No, it was nice; there was no issue. My friend Gaurav and I were supposed to have dinner that night. So, we were chatting about some stuff, and I checked my balance. I told him, ‘Dude, I’ve got just ₹18 left.’ He didn’t have much either. But I think that’s the thing about being FTII-ites; you manage somehow.”

Rajkummar Rao Says His Family Really Supported Him Financially

This story may sound tough, but Rajkummar’s tone remained light and full of gratitude. He didn’t dwell on the lack of money. Instead, he highlighted the joy of being part of a warm, welcoming community.

“You can call up your friends and say, ‘Hey, what’s going on? We have nothing going on here. What are you making? We’ll come over to eat!’ And all the doors were always open; everyone was super welcoming. I think that’s a huge benefit of being part of the institute.”

It wasn’t just the FTII community that helped him get through the tough days. Rajkummar also credits his family for being his biggest support system.

“Plus, like I said, my family really supported me financially too. No matter what, they would manage or figure it out, and they were always there for me. My mom and brother were really supportive as well.”

Today, Rajkummar Rao is one of the most respected and loved actors in the country. But stories like these remind us that behind every success is a journey filled with struggles, good friends, and strong family bonds.

It is inspiring to hear how Rajkummar handled hard times with humor, warmth, and resilience. His story is proof that dreams come true even if you start with just ₹18 in your pocket.
