EXCLUSIVE: Rajkummar Rao Says – PR Is Short-Lived!
When asked about his no-nonsense, straightforward nature, Rajkummar didn’t hold back. “I’m a bit too real for the industry sometimes,” he said with a laugh. But does that honesty come at a cost? Not according to him.

“Not at all. In the end, people will remember your work. That’s how you’ll be known,” he explained. “I think PR is pretty short-lived. It lasts for a couple of years, maybe 5 or 10, you know? But then what’s next? What happens 50 years from now when you’re no longer around? Nobody’s going to remember how many followers you had. Nobody will care.”

People Will Remember You For Your Work, Nothing Else – Rajkummar Rao
Rajkummar believes it’s the work that truly leaves a mark. “It’s not like anyone’s gonna remember anything about your PR or that this comment came in or how many people commented,” he added.
To drive home his point, he took us back to some of the most iconic names in Indian and global cinema. “People will remember you for your work and nothing else. Today, we remember Dilip Kumar, and we remember Sanjeev Kumar. You know, Mr. Bachchan is still out there, still killing it with his work, but we remember them for their contributions.”
He also reflected on legendary films like Sholay and The Godfather, explaining how their legacy has nothing to do with box office numbers. “We don’t really remember how much money Sholay made; I have no idea, but it’ll always be one of the biggest films made in Indian cinema. I don’t know how much money The Godfather made either, but it’ll always be one of the finest films ever made. So, yeah, that’s PR for you.”
That said, he isn’t dismissive of PR completely. “I think it’s pretty short-lived, but in that moment, it really makes you happy,” he admitted. It’s a part of the journey, but not the destination.
There Are Still Many Directors Who Are Very Genuine – Says Rajkummar Rao
Despite everything, Rajkummar remains hopeful and positive about the film industry. According to him, the heart of cinema still beats strong.
“The purity is still the same in the industry. There are still many makers and especially a lot of directors who are very genuine. Some actors are also really authentic. I think there are many filmmakers, especially directors, and a good number of technical cinematographers and producers who are still very pure. So, I think it’s great to work with them.”
