The Nikita Roy actress, who tied the knot with longtime partner Zaheer Iqbal on 23 June 2024, opened up about the unforgettable way he proposed to her. When asked to recommend a must-visit travel destination, Sonakshi didn’t even have to think twice.
“Finland is something you should definitely go for. That was the first time I saw snow. Finland was where Zaheer proposed to me, under the Northern Lights. So it was very, very special. I’ve never seen a sight like that anywhere else. It’s beautiful. It is stunning. I think once in everybody’s lifetime, they should just go there.”

Just picture that. A snowy wonderland, magical Northern Lights glowing above, and your partner choosing that exact moment to ask you the biggest question of your life. It sounds straight out of a fairytale, and that’s exactly how Sonakshi remembers it.

While many celebrity proposals are planned with picture-perfect setups and photographers on standby, this one was the opposite. It was raw, real, and full of emotion.
“Pictures of the proposal aren’t uploaded. Not yet. That’s still personal for us. We didn’t have a photographer or anything. Zaheer had decided in his mind that when he first sees the Northern Lights, that’s when he’ll propose to me.”
And that is exactly what happened. Sonakshi was caught completely off guard.

“So I was completely unprepared. I didn’t think he was going to propose to me on that trip. I was setting up the camera on self-timer, ran and stood next to him to take a photo and the next thing I know, he’s on one knee proposing.”
She laughed as she remembered the tiny chaos that followed.
“And the camera even moved, so half of us are cut off in the photo. Like, I don’t even have a nice picture from that moment. But it’s etched in my mind.”
When asked if Zaheer gave a romantic speech, she revealed that the words were simple but incredibly touching.
“It was very quick, but he said some very, very sweet things. It was perfect. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
Their story is refreshingly sweet. No grand show, no fancy frames. Just two people, a snowy night in Finland, the breathtaking Northern Lights, and a proposal that took her by surprise and made her heart full.
