EXCLUSIVE: Has Sonakshi Sinha Grown Out Of The Masala Films Phase?
But for fans who still remember her from the high-energy dance numbers and larger-than-life roles in films like Rowdy Rathore and R… Rajkumar, there’s always been one big question. Will we ever get to see that version of Sonakshi again?
In a recent candid chat with Instant Bollywood, Sonakshi opened up about the contrast between her early Bollywood journey and the kind of work she is doing today. She was asked about the shift, from the Sonakshi who grooved to Saree Ke Fall Sa to the powerful, grounded woman we now see on streaming platforms.
“I feel everyone grows from certain things. At that time, I enjoyed it a lot. I really had fun, and I did a lot of that. And because of that, I’m able to do this now,” Sonakshi shared, smiling.
It’s clear that she holds no regrets about her past choices. Instead, she sees them as stepping stones.

“That Phase Had Its Own Time, This Is Its Own Time” – Sonakshi Sinha
Today, her world looks very different. The Sonakshi we see now is effortlessly slipping into layered roles that show off her acting chops. Think fearless cop in Dahaad or the rebellious Fareedan in Heeramandi. These characters are bold, strong, and full of depth.
“I’m really appreciative of the kind of work I’m getting today… all these strong female characters, I’m truly grateful for that. If I hadn’t done that earlier, maybe I wouldn’t be able to do this now. That phase had its own time. This is its own time,” she explained.
She also spoke about how much fun that earlier phase was.
“But that time was a lot of fun. I loved dancing, those commercial, full-blast dhamaka films. They were so much fun.”
While Sonakshi may not be planning a masala film comeback anytime soon, she hasn’t shut the door on it either. For now, she’s in a space where meaningful roles and strong scripts are what excite her, and she’s owning this new chapter with grace and strength.
