It’s been years since a romantic Bollywood film turned into a massive box office success. But Yash Raj Films’ Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, appears to have ended that dry spell.
According to a report, Saiyaara will be streaming on Netflix once its theatrical run concludes. While an official OTT release date hasn’t been announced yet, the report indicates that the filmmakers are aiming for a Diwali release and are currently in talks with Netflix to make it happen. Initially, the film was expected to arrive on the platform within a few months of its theatrical debut. However, due to its overwhelming popularity, it may continue its run in cinemas longer than planned. As a result, the final OTT release date will likely depend on the film’s box office performance.
A report revealed that Saiyaara was initially slated for an OTT release in the second week of September. However, with no major Hindi film releases lined up in the near future, the filmmakers are aiming to capitalize on the film’s strong theatrical run. In under two weeks, Saiyaara has already raked in an impressive ₹217 crore at the box office, against a production budget of ₹45 crore. Given this momentum, the makers are expecting even higher returns from cinemas and are now looking to delay the film’s OTT release to maximize profits.
