Aneet Padda, who recently rose to fame with Mohit Suri’s film Saiyaara, is set to appear next in a gripping courtroom drama Nyaya, on an OTT platform.
Although she has signed an exclusive three-film deal with Yash Raj Films, Aneet had already completed filming for the non-YRF project Nyaya before being cast in her breakout role.
Aneet Padda will share screen space with Fatima Sana Shaikh and Arjun Mathur in the courtroom drama Nyaya, which is inspired by real-life events. Shot last year, the series is slated to premiere soon on a leading OTT platform. Nyaya delves into the intersection of faith and justice—Fatima plays a determined police officer, while Aneet takes on the powerful role of a 17-year-old girl seeking justice after being sexually assaulted by a revered spiritual leader.
A stark departure from her gentle and soft-spoken role as songwriter Vaani Batra in Saiyaara, Aneet’s performance in Nyaya showcases her range as an actor. Industry sources confirm that Nyaya was filmed before Aneet was cast in Saiyaara. Following the latter’s monumental success, plans are now underway to position her firmly as a leading lady in theatrical cinema.
“Aneet is being positioned as a big-screen star by YRF. Nyaya was filmed before she came on board for Saiyaara and doesn’t impact her journey as a theatrical lead,” a trade insider shared. “She’s delivering what could be a ₹400 crore blockbuster at just 22—clearly emerging as a Gen Z icon. The focus is now on building her theatrical presence. There are ambitious plans to shape her into the face of her generation, and that’s only possible by strengthening her box office appeal.”
Nyaya is backed by Sameer Nair’s Applause Entertainment in collaboration with Mangata Films, and is helmed by Nitya Mehra—best known for Baar Baar Dekho and Made in Heaven—along with her husband, director Karan Kapadia. This marks Aneet’s second project with the duo, following the 2023 Amazon Prime Video series Big Girls Don’t Cry. The series also stars Arjun Mathur, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, Raghubir Yadav, and Rajesh Sharma.
Aneet Padda made her acting debut with a minor appearance in the Kajol-starrer Salaam Venky. Her first major role came with the Prime Video coming-of-age drama series Big Girls Don’t Cry, where she portrayed the character of Roohi Ahuja.
