EXCLUSIVE: “I’ve Never Really Gotten A Film Where I Was 1st Choice” – Mrunal Thakur

In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, Mrunal Thakur opened up about the hard truths of making it in the film industry, and it’s not all red carpets and easy roles.

“I’ve worked really hard,” she said. “Sometimes you just have to tell yourself, don’t quit. Don’t give up.” That mindset carried her through some tough phases, especially before her breakthrough with Love Sonia.

“Love Sonia changed everything. People saw there’s a solid actor here who can perform.”

But even now, roles don’t land in her lap. “I don’t care about playing a stereotypical mother. People were like, ‘You’re playing a mom?’ But guess what, that role came to me after four actresses rejected it.”

That’s been the pattern. “I’ve never really gotten a film where I was the first choice,” she revealed. It’s a tough reality, but it hasn’t stopped her.

“It’s Exhausting To Keep Proving Myself” – Mrunal Thakur

When asked what about Son of Sardaar 2, she said – “It took a long time. It wasn’t easy. But it’s finally happening now.”

Despite hits like Hi Nanna, Mrunal still feels the need to prove herself over and over again. “Even after the film did well, I was still being asked to prove myself. It’s exhausting.”

She also questioned the ever-shifting idea of success. “Is it just a good film, or does it need to make ₹500 or ₹1000 crore? That definition of success keeps changing.”

One thing she’s clear on is this; quality over hype. “If you look at my filmography, there’s not one film that’s so bad it’s intolerable. I want to hold a record of never giving a bad performance.”
