Soha Ali Khan might belong to royalty, but her journey into films didn’t exactly begin with red carpets and paparazzi flashes. Before she became the actress we know today, she was living a very regular life, worrying about rent, saving up from her salary, and sitting at a desk job.
Soha Ali Khan On Her 1st Gig; Went From Earning 2.2 LPA At Citibank To 5-Lakh Modelling Contract
In a recent chat with Instant Bollywood, Soha Ali Khan got candid. The Pataudi princess was once crunching numbers at Citibank, earning a modest ₹2.2 lakh a year. To put that in perspective, she was shelling out ₹17,000 a month just for rent. Looking back, she admitted with a laugh, “No offense to anybody watching, but banking was not for me.”
What changed her life was a modelling opportunity – a contract worth ₹5 lakh. Comparing it to her bank salary, she said, “I thought – I’m working every day at the bank to earn 2.2 lakh, and here I can earn in one day what I make in a year”. Suddenly, the math made sense.

From that moment, films didn’t feel like such a far-fetched idea. Soha knew her parents might not be thrilled, but she also knew she could finally make her own choices. “I wanted to change to films. And I knew my parents probably wouldn’t be happy with that decision. But I could take that decision because I was earning my own money. I didn’t have to be answerable or accountable to anyone.”
Soha Ali Khan Earned 10 Lakhs For Her Dil Maange More Role
And then came the big break. Her debut film Dil Maange More landed in her lap with an offer she couldn’t refuse.
“My offer was ₹10 lakh or something, for Dil Maange More. And that was a huge amount of money so I was thinking, I definitely want to do this and I will think about the rest later.”
From a 9-to-5 at Citibank to cashing her first film cheque of ₹10 lakh, Soha’s journey proves that sometimes the smartest career move isn’t just about the job title. It is about trusting your instincts and knowing when to take the leap. And honestly, who can blame her for choosing movie sets over spreadsheets?
