When asked if there was anyone in the industry she feels connected to, Jaya smiled and recalled her meeting with Anupam Kher. “Yes, in Bombay I met Anupam Kher ji. We talked a lot, about spirituality, life, everything. There’s one thing I really liked: he told me, ‘Everyone has their own ways to feel spirituality and meditation.’”
For Kher, that spiritual practice comes in the simplest moments. As Jaya explained, he finds meditation in meeting children on the road, talking to them, learning about their lives, and embracing that joy. “This is meditation for me,” he once told her. Jaya added that their conversations went beyond small talk, and that they shared a spiritual bond.
She also has huge admiration for Amitabh Bachchan, whom she respects from afar. “I feel his life has seen many ups and downs, and he overcame everything, created his own space again. Now he has such a unique place that no one else can take it,” she said.

What impresses her the most? His discipline. “At his age, working 18 hours a day is a very big thing. I think young people aren’t even doing that… But he’s still working 18 hours, and he doesn’t even need to. That’s a great thing.”
And it doesn’t stop there. Jaya revealed that her experiences working with Sonu Nigam, Jassi Gill, and Jubin Nautiyal have been nothing but positive. “They are very spiritual, very good, very family-oriented… Never once did I feel, ‘Oh, I don’t want to work with this person again.’”
Will Jaya Kishori Ever Join The Industry?
So, does this mean she’s tempted to join the industry herself? Not really. “My life is different. I could never do normal songs or movies. But yes, I think because the outside world sees that industry so differently, I do feel curious to know that world.”
Looks like for Jaya, whether it is icons like Amitabh Bachchan or soulful singers she has collaborated with, the connection always circles back to one thing – spirituality.
